Faculty of Medicine, Sultan Agung Islamic University was established on 10th October 1963. Approximately 17 months after the establishment of Sultan Agung Islamic University on May 20, 1962 and then got registered decree No 74 / B.S.T / P / 64 dated February 28, 1964 signed by Moh. Sa'id official Head of Private Higher Education and Science Ministry PerguruanTinggi.

Establishment of the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA is driven by the needs and interests of the community greatly to the existence of the Faculty of Medicine. In that year the only Faculty of Medicine in Central Java is the Faculty of Medicine UNDIP are only able to accommodate 100 students out of 3,000 applicants prospective students, while the existing policy was difficult for prospective students from Central Java to be accepted in West Java and East Java.

These conditions make the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA instantly get support from the community, especially people of Central Java and obtain full approval from the authorities - officials at the time, both in Semarang and Jakarta. Establishment of the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA is also due to the efforts of the founders to participate together with the government scored a doctor in order to improve the health of all people in Indonesia.

The physical building Faculty of Medicine is located on Highway Kaligawe Km.4 Semarang. Since its inception the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA already have teaching hospitals that are in the shade YBWSA (Foundation for Waqf Board Sultan Agung) ie Islam Sultan Agung Hospital and adjacent to the Faculty of Medicine. This also gives the advantage in the smooth process of learning both in college (undergraduate level) as well as in the clinic (clinical work / koass).

Judging from the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA own age is quite mature as are 50 years.During 50-year journey Faculty of Medicine has experienced the bitter education, especially the implementation of the state exam. Alhamdulillah with the enforcement of Accreditation System for the entire course diperguruan High by the National Accreditation Board, Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA the date of December 29, 2014 has gained the status of an accredited rated B.Status Akreditasiter call by the Decree of the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 486 / SK / BAN-PT / Akred / PD / XII / 2014. On March 27, 2013, the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA obtain the certificate ISO 9001: 2008 from TUV SUD PSB Pte Ltd.

Since its establishment, the Faculty of Medicine UNISSULA had several times changed the education system. Starting in 1964 enacted Package System. Furthermore, starting in 1979/1980 apply Semester Credit System (SKS). In this system the length of education was changed from 6.5 years (4.5 years and the Graduate Program Professional Program 2 years) to 6 years (4 years Degree Program and Professional Program 2 years) and at that time there is still a state exam undergraduate level and the level profession so graduating doctors could be longer.

As the development of science and technology in the process of medical education and the national curriculum of higher education that competency-based curriculum, then in 2005 FK UNISSULA conduct educational innovations, namely implementing competency-based curriculum using learning approach based on problems (PBL / Problem-based learning) in full , In determining method PBL approach in full, some basic considerations of education are used among others: the paradigm of education based on output (outcome based education) and the shift in strategy approach used in the curriculum that is from teacher-centered, information gathering, dicipline based, hospital based, uniform, and apprenticeship-based to a student centered, problem-based, integrited, community based, elective, and systematic (SPICES model).

According to the theory of human information processing, there are three important principles that must be considered in the process of finding information in teaching and learning, which activate prior knowledge, encoding specificity, and elaboration of the principles knowledge.Tiga is in accordance with the curriculum developed by problem (PBL), given PBL allowing students from the first year and subsequent years have the opportunity to develop these three principles. Hence our choice in curriculum innovation is PBL.

In the PBL system approach, the students are introduced to the learning method in the form of tutorials (small group discussion) using modules. Inside the modules there is integration between their respective disciplines between biomedical sciences, human sciences, clinical medicine and medical science community. The system also invites students are actively in acquiring knowledge is to define their own learning objectives. Through this method, the old approach of PBL education changed from 6 years to 5 years, ie 3.5 years at Undergraduate and 1.5 years at Doctor Professional Program. Students are entitled to hold the title of doctor after PASS Student Competency Exam Doctor Profession Program (UKMPPD), while to be able to do independent practice physicians must first graduate internship program for 1 year in units of health services such as health centers and hospitals in accordance with the Law law No.20 of 2013 on Medical Education. Management internship activities carried out by the government through the Ministry of Health.

Since the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine, has been cooperating with many parties, including the Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro, Army Hospital, Psychiatric Hospital, County Hospital, Department of Health and others. In addition, the Faculty of Medicine is also working with the Government of the Netherlands in the development Teaching Hospital, Doctor and Nurse Education, curative as well as preventive measures.
